Education & Participation: August 2024
Aug 2024
This month, our Learning and Participation summer programme hosted several impactful work experience placements with local schools and councils, including Islington and Westminster Councils. In collaboration with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Advocacy and Participation Team, we welcomed a care-experienced young person for a two-week placement at our Holborn office, aiming to raise aspirations and provide practical work experience. Partnering with the Islington Supported Employment Team, we hosted a young person for a six-month placement in our Buildings Department to help him gain technical skills and pursue his dream of working in architecture. We also bid farewell to our latest group of Central Saint Martins graduates, with one intern noting, “My internship at The Bomb Factory was fantastic. It was both educational and engaging. I appreciated that I was not only assisting the team but also being mentored and allowed to voice my thoughts and suggestions.” Our CSM internships will resume in September; interested students can apply by contacting our Learning and Participation Manager. Additionally, we hosted a careers day for fifteen Year 10 students from St Marylebone School for Girls in partnership with City Lions. The event featured an inspiring talk by Bomb Factory director Pallas Citroen, a walkthrough of our Covent Garden exhibition Shut Up and Stick to Football, and a life-drawing workshop led by artist Ed Gray, leaving one student to reflect, “If you asked me 20 minutes ago, I would have said I can’t do this type of thing (drawing).” We celebrate our recent successes and eagerly await the next year!
