Billy X

After XLand I was not entirely sure where to go next. I got a jolt from a fellow artist and mentor who told me to do two things. Read the Baudelaire essay 'The Painter of Modern Life' and to go and see Soutine in Dussledorf. After Germany I wanted to work in oil. And after Baudelaire I wanted to look at everyone, intently, every bit of them. Someone called my work naive the other day. I didn’t correct them but it’s not necessarily true either. I have been exposed to Balthus also and I hope I can paint beautifully like that one day, Make scary things pretty. Bill
