The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is delighted to present 9005, an exhibition at our Holborn Gallery from 23rd October to 9th November. This marks the first collaboration between artist Othello De'Souza-Hartley, architect Laura Büchi, and sound artist Elliot Buchanan. The show explores the intersections of personal identity, architecture, and time through a dynamic fusion of visual art and sound installations.
The exhibition takes its name from the industrial code for Jet Black, the sole colour De'Souza-Hartley employs in his work. Through this monochromatic palette, he explores the narrative potential of human skin and built environments, skillfully integrating painting, photography, sound, and architectural design.
At the heart of 9005 are De'Souza-Hartley’s large-scale paintings, which feature intuitive mark-making and rich textures. These works create a compelling dialogue between the traces of time on skin and architectural surfaces, encouraging viewers to reflect on the beauty inherent in both personal and structural histories.
By examining the connections between the human body and architectural spaces, 9005 offers a fresh perspective on identity and aesthetics. The exhibition celebrates blackness while exploring how time shapes both bodies and buildings. Through its emphasis on texture, mark-making, and the interplay of light and shadow, 9005 invites viewers to discover beauty and meaning within the complex layers of human experience and our built environments.
