'The Gucci sunglasses gave her value, but also a bit of comfort- they were the bit of sugar in her tea’ - Lisa McKenzie

The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is pleased to present ‘A Little Bit of Sugar’, the debut solo exhibition by London-based artist Shauna Cribbin.

Shauna presents a series of large-scale steel screenprints and tire disco ball sculptures that explore themes of escapism, aspiration and hope for working-class women. Shauna’s work is concerned with social class divisions and consequent systems of Value and taste, with her experiences as female at the forefront.

The show's title ‘Little Bit of Sugar’ is an extract from Lisa Mckenzie’s book ‘Getting By’, exploring austerity Britain and has been a major influence to Shauna. In these works, Shauna has the surface and screen in continual flux, with the pixel constantly in use through both bitmap and rhinestone. Shauna is inspired by women working in service of their desires and the strength and resourcefulness of those who are who they are whether others like it or not. This show is a love letter to women settling for more: more power, more love, more jewellery.

Shauna Cribbin (b.1997) lives and works in London. She is currently a studio holder at The Bomb Factory and recently Graduated with a BA from The Slade School of fine art, University College London.
